WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR MASSAGE AT PFP

Walking into a new space for the first time—especially for a massage—can bring up a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Our goal at Pittsburgh Fitness Project is to make sure you feel comfortable, informed, and supported from the moment you walk through our front door.

Here’s exactly what you can expect.

When You Arrive

When you come in, you’ll be greeted by a friendly face and a welcoming environment. Our space is designed to feel calm, inclusive, and unpretentious—whether this is your first massage ever or part of your regular self-care routine.

If it’s your first visit, we’ll ask you to complete a brief intake form. This paperwork helps us understand:

  • Any injuries or areas of concern

  • Your goals for the session (relaxation, pain relief, recovery, etc.)

  • Preferences around pressure, communication, and comfort

There’s no rush here. Take your time, ask questions, and let us know if anything feels unclear. This is your time.

Before the Massage Begins

Your massage therapist will walk you to the treatment room and spend a few minutes checking in with you. This is a collaborative conversation—not an interrogation.

We’ll talk about:

  • What brought you in today

  • Areas you’d like us to focus on (or avoid)

  • Pressure preferences

  • Any soreness, injuries, or recent training

This is also a great time to share anything that helps you feel more comfortable—whether you prefer quiet, light conversation, or specific positioning support.

In the Massage Room

Once everything is discussed, your therapist will step out so you can get settled on the table in privacy.

You’ll be given clear instructions on:

  • How to position yourself

  • What clothing to remove (only what you’re comfortable with)

  • How to get under the sheet

You are always fully draped, and only the area being worked on is uncovered. Your comfort, privacy, and sense of safety are our top priorities.

During the Massage

This is your time to relax, breathe, and let your body do what it needs to do.

During the session:

  • Pressure is always adjustable — speak up at any time

  • You’re welcome to talk or stay quiet

  • We’ll check in to make sure everything feels right

Some clients like to zone out completely. Others ask questions or give feedback as we go. There’s no “right” way to receive a massage — just what works best for you.

After Your Session

Once the massage is complete, your therapist will step out again to give you time to get dressed.

Before you leave, we may offer:

  • Gentle movement or recovery suggestions

  • Hydration reminders

  • Recommendations for future sessions if helpful

There’s never pressure to book more or do anything extra. Our goal is simply to support how you’re feeling today and help you move forward comfortably.

Our Promise to You

At Pittsburgh Fitness Project, massage is not about pushing through pain or forcing relaxation. It’s about meeting you where you are, respecting your body, and creating a space where you feel safe, heard, and cared for.

Whether you’re here for recovery, stress relief, or ongoing bodywork, you’re always welcome exactly as you are.

Sign up for an appointment today! If you have questions before your appointment, we’re happy to answer them. We’re looking forward to taking care of you.
