How Massage Helps Undo Daily Tension

Our bodies are built to move on a daily basis. Yet over 50% of people spend most of their workday in a seated position. Sitting with poor posture can lead to neck and back pain, forward head posture (tech neck), rounded shoulders, hyperkyphosis, anterior pelvic tilt, bulging discs, muscle stiffness, decreased mobility, poor balance, decreased athletic performance, and more. Good posture involves positioning your body to walk, stand, sit, or lie in a position that places the least amount of strain on the supporting muscles and ligaments in your body.

As we start to notice our positions in every situation, we can help correct those positions. By keeping proper posture, we can look forward to keeping bones and joints in proper alignment, reducing abnormal wear and tear on joint surfaces, decreasing the stress on spinal ligaments, preventing abnormal spinal positions, preventing muscle fatigue, and preventing injuries.

But What’s the First Step?

The first and most important step to help with posture is focusing on the pelvis. Positioning in a stacked position where the ears, shoulders, and hips align will help all of the muscles in your upper body. By keeping your shoulders back and aligned with your ears, it will open up your breathing. When people have a concave position in the slouched position, this shortens breathing and causes the chest muscles to shorten. This makes it harder to breathe. Poor posture can lead to many issues down the road, but they can improve with recognition and massage.

Focusing on Posture

Massage can help with posture. When muscles are shortened, we are able to massage the surrounding muscles to lengthen. This can be a way to increase blood flow and correct posture. We can use many different techniques such as deep tissue, trigger point therapy, cupping, assisted stretching, and much more. The more we focus on our posture with monthly massages, the better the body will feel down the road.

If you’ve noticed slouching posture, tighter breathing, or just know your desk chair is doing more harm than good, there’s no better time to reach out! Set up your appointment today and start melting that tension!
